after recently launching the d3 recordings label to a great reception, the man behind vibes and pepper is ready to launch his second new label, d3 elements. the artist behind the three track ep is raymond funnye aka strong souls, who back in the mid-nineties released on still much mythologised chicago label dance mania as well as the uks black market, which also saw him work with the legendary larry heard. the music he offers here is of a high pedigree from start to finish.

recorded whilst battling insomnia during a cold and bleak berlin winter, jack dixons new ep finds him channeling the light and the dark of his home city. inspired by the bygone euphoria of early analogue techno and the harsh industrial landscape outside his window, the three tracks of those questions swirl vinyl crackle, ghostly rave vocals and human heartbeats around pounding jackhammer bass, intense drops and intricate house rhythms. the result is a perfect encapsulation of the curses and blessings of a sleepless hibernation. it is an atmosphere also present in the hazy drones and pulsating sub-bass of skudges exhilarating, analogue remix of heirloom, the revered swedish duo tuning down the filters and reinterpreting the track as a ghostly and paranoid low-end basement banger.

label boss dj bone mans the controls for the 38th release on subject detroit, laying down a typically fierce, three pronged auditory attack. *what he said* tactfully yet forcefully treads the line between house and techno, cherry picking physiognomies from each side of that ever-blurring line and constructing something fresh but bristling with familiar subject detroit elegances. a favourite fixture from bones more recent dj sets, *i do* sees bubbling, arpeggiated chords simmer and swoop from foreground to background loosely as one solitary, remanipulated ticking hat keeps things in formation. watch out for the thunderous, doubled-up drum arrangement that crashes in to the picture out of nowhere! b side track *rhythm soul funk* is a genuine hard hitter and another that tiptoes between the old school and the nouveau.

cassegrain & tin man are a deadly combination. old school acid lines programmed by one of the greatest masters in this field meet a super modern techno sound design by cassegrain, who have made themselves a name in the last years for producing some of the finest in dark and experimental techno. for the follow up to their debut release on killekill they have put together three tracks that are outstand- ing. high & low is a slowly swelling minimalistic acid epos of over 10 minutes length which proves the mas- tership of tin man in programming acid loops of eternal quality. 8 beats length only, but constantly evolving. no chance for boredom. the b-side starts with sex kit, a dark acid stomper with a chirping percussion which is well suitable for the peaktime dancefloor, followed by sand maze, a sublte minimalistic ambient acid piece, that winds its way into total dissolution. we are quite sure that this is the way acid should sound in 2013.
